Consolidating Several Taobao Sellers Into One Itaobuy Parcel
When combining parcels genuinely saves money, when it costs you more, and how customs sees the box you build.

What consolidation actually saves
International shipping has a fixed component that does not scale with weight: the per-parcel base charge. Six small parcels pay it six times. One consolidated box pays it once, and that is where the saving comes from.
The saving is largest when items are small, light and already at the warehouse. It shrinks as the box grows, because volumetric weight rises with the carton, not with what is inside it.
When combining costs more
Mixing a bulky item with several small ones inflates the volumetric weight of the entire box. The small items effectively pay the bulky item's air.
The other trap is timing. A consolidated parcel waits for its slowest item, so one slow seller can hold everything for a week or more.
Group by seller, then by urgency
Items from the same seller usually arrive together, which means one QC set to approve instead of several, and a single decision rather than a sequence of them.
Separate anything with a deadline. Holding an urgent item behind three casual ones is the most expensive way to save a few currency units on freight.
Customs sees one box
Once consolidated, the parcel has one declared value and one description. That simplifies assessment, and it also means one restricted item changes the route for everything else in the box.
Know your destination threshold before dispatch. Below it, most parcels pass without assessment; above it, duty is due regardless of how the value was written.
Packing requests that are worth making
Ask for compression on soft goods, removal of unnecessary retail boxes, and reinforcement on anything fragile. Each request changes the billable volume or the survival odds.
Ask before dispatch. After the box is sealed and weighed, the quote is fixed and the packing is whatever it is.
Decide before you confirm
Consolidation is a packing decision and it is not reversible without unpacking. Choose the contents deliberately, and split anything you may still want to return.
Then approve the QC sets promptly. Storage charges accumulate daily, and they are the usual reason a well-planned consolidation ends up more expensive than expected.
FAQ
How many items should go in one box?
Enough to justify one base charge, and no more than fits without inflating the volumetric weight. For clothing that is often three to six pieces.
Can I consolidate later instead?
Yes, items can wait at the warehouse, usually free for a limited period and chargeable after that. Check the free storage window.
Does consolidation affect the QC step?
No. QC happens per item as it arrives; consolidation happens after you approve, so you still see and judge everything first.
